I used to drink enough to put even Matsumoto to shame - turns out I think better when ridiculously drunk. Which makes it worse. I gave up because I didn't want to start medicating myself with more potent drugs, and just tried to get on with my job as Lieutenant.

It worked until Aizen enacted his betrayal.
